SOFI TUKKER, the GRAMMY-nominated, genre-defying duo comprised of
Sophie Hawley-Weld and
Tucker Halpern, have released their new third studio album
BREAD, their
most daring, innovative and infectious body of work to date.
In addition to being a symbol of abundance, energy, sensuality and community,
BREAD is an acronym for “
Be Really Energetic And Dance.” It’s an invitation for a shared
experience to “break bread” through musical connection.
Blending house, Brazilian funk, drum and bass, bossa nova, pop, Portuguese poetry, and, most crucially—fun,
BREAD features special guests
Kah-Lo, MC Bola and Channel Tres. BREAD’s decadent album cover was shot by visual artist and fine art photographer
Rob Woodcox , who captures Sophie wearing a custom gown (by
Chris Habana) made entirely out of bread in front of the ornate
Palácio das Laranjeiras, the stunning residence of the Governor of Rio de Janeiro.
SOFI TUKKER comment, “The
BREAD world is vivid - a celebration of life and sensuality intended to give the listener energy, just like carbs. Bread is also something people all around the world use to connect, gather and share. We’re reminded that it feels amazing to lose your inhibitions, feel energized and dance. The creative thread throughout
BREAD explores togetherness, the magic of the Brazilian essence, which the music is inspired by, as well as a playful surrealism that says: live life to the fullest, eat all the BREAD, and BE REALLY ENERGETIC AND DANCE (
BREAD acronym).”
BREAD was recorded all around the world, but especially in Brazil, which has always been a big influence in SOFI TUKKER’s world. “I feel a sense of pride for the country because of how much of a role it plays in our music. Brazil is like a member of the band,” says Tucker. Sophie is fluent in Portuguese but their extended time there during the making of the album deepened their relationship with its poetry even further.
SOFI TUKKER’S fall 2024 North American headline tour is their biggest to date, with
Confidence Man and
Shermanology supporting. SOFI TUKKER’S live show was described as “electrifying” by
Entertainment Weekly and “explosive” by
Rolling Stone. The band also is supporting
J Balvin in Australia and
Kygo in Europe in 2024.
Offering an inclusive and global perspective on electronic music, SOFI TUKKER has amassed over three billion streams, and Platinum and Gold records on five continents. Their discography includes the EP’s
Soft Animals and
Dancing on the People, three studio albums,
Treehouse,
WET TENNIS and
BREAD, and an array of singles released in 2023, all spreading themes of liberation, unity, and self-empowerment. The band lit up festival stages in 2023 with appearances at
Coachella,
Governor’s Ball,
Lollapalooza and
Bonnaroo among others. Sharing a mutual love of
fashion, SOFI TUKKER launched their own clothing imprint
WET TENNIS and were the face of
G-STAR RAW’s colorful denim campaign. Dedicated activists, they’ve worked with multiple organizations over the years including Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Natural Resources Defense Council, The Nature Conservancy, the March for Our Lives and the Red Cross, among others.
